Furniture produced by Pospischil formed part of the earliest material output of the Wiener Werkstätte.
Anton Pospischil ran a furniture factory in Vienna's 5th district at a moment of profound transition in the decorative arts. Following the founding of the Wiener Werkstätte in 1903, his workshop produced furniture based on designs by Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser, which were sold and circulated as Wiener Werkstätte works.
Operating at the intersection of craft, industry, and emerging modernist ideals, Pospischil's factory contributed materially to the realization of the Wiener Werkstätte's early vision, translating radical design principles into finely made functional objects. His work forms part of the infrastructural and artisanal foundation upon which Viennese modern design developed in the early 20th century.
