An elegant late 19th-century side table in the Neoclassical style. The rectangular top features a broad mitered cherrywood border enclosing a rich field of four-way book-matched walnut veneer. This dark wood ground frames a central horizontal marquetry panel depicting a detailed, stylized pastoral landscape. The scene features a prominent farmhouse on the left, a solitary central tree, a winding path or river cutting through rolling hills, and a distant hilltop castle complex on the right. The pictorial depth is achieved through the artful grain alignment of various precious hardwoods and scorched hot-sand shading techniques. The central panel is framed by a delicate geometric wave-and-sawtooth border, while the outer walnut field is enclosed by a contrasting light-and-dark dentil band. The table is fitted with a single frieze drawer and is raised on four elegant, tapered, and fluted square legs.
