Designed and manufactured by Anton Pospischil and exhibited at the 1900/1901 Winter Exhibition at the MAK – Museum für angewandte Kunst, this armchair reflects the progressive edge of Viennese design at the turn of the century. It is composed of walnut with a gently curved backrest, disciplined vertical slats, and a triangular stretcher that articulates the architectural construction of an armchair. The proportion and line are in focus. The chair stands at the threshold between late 19th-century craftsmanship and the emerging language of the Vienna Secession.
Published in Kunst und Kunsthandwerk (1901) and Das Interieur (1901), it was conceived not merely as seating, but as a statement of refined domestic modernity: the collectible design of its moment.
