Designed in 1933 by Gio Ponti for Luigi Fontana, this table lamp merges modernist restraint with sacred imagery. The engraved crystal panel depicts the Virgin Mary crowned and triumphant, standing upon the serpent, an iconographic reference to the Immaculate Conception, accompanied by a dove and flowing lines suggestive of divine radiance or waves.
The illuminated glass transforms devotional symbolism into an atmosphere. Ponti’s composition is both graphic and architectural: a thin vertical plane held within a disciplined brass structure. The lamp exemplifies his ability to reconcile spiritual narrative with modern design language, in which light becomes both a medium and a meaning.
